Millie was rescued from a breeder in New York who was getting out of the breeding business. Millie just turned 5 years old on March 9. Unfortunately she is heartworm positive, which means there are actual worms living in her heart currently. If left untreated, this will kill her.
Millie was started on doxycycline in the shelter which is the first step in treating a dog for heartworm along with the monthly dose of heartworm preventative.
As we typically see in breeder dogs, Millie is a bit on the timid side but she does seem to be warming up to her foster family and is not as freaked out by being in a home as some of the mill girls have seen in the past.
Millie has a long road ahead of her with treatment. It sure would be nice if she had a forever home waiting for her at the end of her treatment. We believe we may have found that home. However, if you are interested in waiting for Millie, the first step to foster to adopt Millie is to read
"How To Adopt" and follow the directions from there if you qualify.
