This sweet girl came into GRRR on August 19, 2026.  Courage is without a doubt, one of the most devastating cases of animal cruelty we have ever seen. This sweet dog was finally taken by animal control, after a long history of mistreatment. Given her condition, the shelter staff thought it best to euthanize her. However, one of their volunteers (a friend of the rescue) let us know about this sweet pup. Obviously, she was in dire need of medical attention. But GRRR thought she deserved a chance to fight. We wanted to help her. So, off we were with her to the emergency vet.

The first step was to get her blood drawn and see how poor her condition was. And miraculously, her bloodwork wasn’t bad at all! Much to our shock and surprise!

GRRR has aptly named her ‘Courage’! Courage is now in an amazing foster home receiving medical care, medicated baths for her full body yeast infection, among other things. She sleeps in a fuzzy, fluffy bed to keep her comfortable. We have no words for the level of neglect and cruelty that sweet Courage has been exposed to. All we can say is that we have her, and she is safe now with us.

Courage is a fighter! While it will take months to get her back to health, she has shown such a desire to survive! She has went from a 1/4 cup of food a day to now 1 cup of food four times a day. She only weighed 48 pounds when she arrived and we are hopeful she will be looking and feeling much better soon.
