Indy is a 3 year old female golden retriever who was rescued from a puppy mill. She was a former breeding dog who was given to us to find a good home. Indy came with another big red golden who went to another rescue and a group of Yorkies that went to yet another rescue.

Indy was very scared when she was first rescued, but is coming around and is she is very sweet. She also gets along with other dogs. In fact, it is best that Indy have another dog in the home to show her the ropes of being a loved house dog.

Indy went in for a typical spay August 23, when things went terribly wrong. Indy was spayed and was doing fine. Then all of a sudden her incision started to open, red blood cell and hematocrit started to drop. Her abdomen started to fill with fluid. We took her to the ER, but no one could figure out what was wrong. All the vets got together and decided to do exploratory surgery to see what was happening. It turned out that Indy was in a crate with a benebone while her foster ran for groceries. When the foster got home she discovered Indy had chewed off an end of the benebone. Radiographs were done and no blockage was seen but now we know most likely part of that benebone did some damage that would never have shown up on an x-ray.

When Indy came out of surgery the recovery was iffy. They found a perforation of her duodumn, so it was a good thing the vets did the surgery. She has some area of necosres near surgery sites so they resected as much as they were able. She was considered septic and really needed to fight.  

On September 16th, we got the all clear that Indy is available to go to her forever home.
